Here's a little note on my iso time.
And I've added a bunch of photos from the past few months to show that we survived.
While work life continued as normal for Deb, my work restaurant closed end March....but I am returning next week and happy to be back in the kitchen. The past month or so has been good as I've been doing online classes for TAFE (school) to do theory elements and last week I returned to the school kitchen for practicals. There are 2 classes at day, 5 hours each and they are doing their best to get as many students back into class and catching up on missed classes. The next 3 weeks for me is flat strap, I'm at school every day and twice a day on a Tuesday. But after these 3 weeks, we have a mid-year break and then it's only a handful of classes and then I'm finished !!! I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now and it's a good feeling. The three subjects I'm churning through to finish are Meat, Desserts and Pastries/Cakes. What a yummy way to finish.
I've spent the lockdown cooking and mastering some things I've wanted to do for ages. I'm pleased to say lemon meringue pie has been conquered and I spent a day with my work chef learning how to make traditional French puff pastry. OMG - it's easy to do but time consuming by having to put the pastry in the fridge every time between roll/fold. So much easier to buy but the real deal tastes amazing. Choc chip cookies and sausage rolls got some polish and pasta making and other comfort dishes got on the Batcave menu too.
I've pulled the pin on flying for the time being. Time and money are not really making this feasible for the time being. While I'm disappointed again to stop, I'm leaving the door open to maybe returning next year. Sad Batman.
The dogs have enjoyed a good run every day and I've made friends at the local dog park. I've been able to get the running up but it will soon drop off now that school and work are going back. Speaking of dogs, our former foster puppy Harper is a beautiful big boy now and moved to Qld to a lovely smaller beach town with his family. He's one happy dog and we were thrilled to see photos of him enjoying his new life. Compare the younger puppy to the handsome dog now.
I've watched a stack of TV and stuff like everyone I guess. Shows to note are Killing Eve (ABC), Reprisal (SBS), the fabulous Hannah Gadsby (Netflix) , Mrs America with Cate Blanchett, Hunters (Amazon) and Masterchef has been really cool to watch with all he returning chefs. Currently started Yellowstone (Stan) with Kevin Costner - bit like modern day Dallas with cowboys on ranches in Montana. I look forward to James Bond, Wonderwoman and Batman coming out this year..hopefully.
Not much else to write. Hopefully life will become more eventful for me as I return to the kitchen to pursue my chefy tongs dreams.
